01

Sliding 808 lines

The glide between notes is the genre — the bass carries the melody, not just the low end.

02

138–145 BPM

The drill pocket, where the halftime feel and the hat pattern lock together.

03

UK and NY leanings

Both dialects of the sound are in the catalogue, tagged in the player.

02

What makes a beat drill and not trap

The bass. Trap 808s hit and decay; drill 808s slide, pitching between notes so the bassline doubles as the melody. That glide is the single clearest marker of the genre.

The percussion is the other half — hats and rims placed off the obvious beats, giving that stumbling, syncopated push that a straight trap pattern does not have.

03

UK drill and New York drill

UK drill sits darker and sparser, often built on plucked or bell-like melodies with a lot of empty space around them. New York drill borrowed the pattern and brought sampled melody and a more aggressive mix to it.

Neither is more correct. What matters for you is which one your delivery sits on — the UK pocket rewards a laid-back, behind-the-beat flow, while the NY pocket pushes harder against the front of the bar.

Questions

Common questions

Can I use Hit Bakerz beats for free?

Yes — beats marked as free can be downloaded and used at no upfront cost. Free use is not unconditional: it is granted under the Hit Bakerz free-beat terms, which give the collective 50% of the royalties generated by any song released on that beat. There is nothing to pay before or during the release.

How does the Hit Bakerz free beat model work?

You download a free beat, record your song and release it. Hit Bakerz takes no upfront payment. In exchange, the collective receives 50% of the royalties the resulting song generates, and the producer is credited. If you would rather keep 100% of your royalties, the same beat can be licensed for an upfront fee in the store.

Are Hit Bakerz beats royalty free?

The free beats are not royalty free. "Free" refers to the download cost, not to the rights: releasing a song on a free Hit Bakerz beat means sharing 50% of that song's royalties with the collective. Paid licences in the store carry their own terms and are the route to take if you need to keep all royalties.

How do I choose the right beat?

Start from tempo and cadence rather than genre labels: write a few bars over the loop and see whether your natural flow sits on the beat. Then check the arrangement has space where your vocal needs to sit, and confirm the key suits your range if you are singing. Preview the whole beat, not the first eight bars — most Hit Bakerz instrumentals change in the second half.
